One of the biggest advantages of waxing is that you can use this form of hair removal on almost any area of your body. People use this form of hair removal to get rid of unsightly hair in all sorts of places. It is low risk, and it means immediate results, which usually means that it is a quick fix that lasts longer than shaving, and is relatively inexpensive.

One of the
benefits of waxing is that if done long enough, and for enough years, it can results in permanent results.
Before you wax, you have to let your hair grow out some. It is best to have the hair be a quarter of an inch long. If it is shorter than that, waxing does not work well, and if it is longer, then the waxing is more painful.

There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal, however there are cons as well.
Pros of waxing:

1.    It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time. Basically, unlike other methods, such as
laser hair removal, you see immediately results, and can remove plenty of hair.
2.    It is a long-lasting method. While not permanent, the hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to eight weeks.
3.    Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit re-growth that is softer, and lighter.
4.    Waxing also removed dead skin cells leaving skin smooth.
Cons of waxing:

1.    Waxing can be painful. The pain comes when the strip is removed from the skin. Although the pain is short-lasting, it can be very uncomfortable, and for those with a low pain threshold, unbearable.
2.    Hair removal is not permanent.
3.    More noticeable hair growth if performed improperly. Basically if you do it yourself and do not use a professional you run the risk of causing your hair to grown back in different directions, and are more noticeable. It can also make other methods of hair removal more difficult. Fortunately, this risk is negligible if the waxing is performed properly.
4.    Unsightly reaction. Many people experience ingrown hairs, red bumps, and minor bleeding, which can make the waxed areas unsightly, which sort of defeats the purpose. This is more likely to occur with men who are waxing areas with thick hair, especially the first few times when follicles are strongest. This can be helped some by cleansing well with an astringent and oil, and by exfoliating after getting waxed.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A WAXING SALON

It’s sad but true. If the salon or spa isn't practicing safe waxing, you could walk away with something much more serious than misshapen brows or an uneven bikini line. You could get an infection or even a disease. It’s your health and you have a right to protect yourself.

While not everything can be measured in just what you see, here are some general things to look for when choosing a salon or spa.

Signs of a Good Waxing Salon:

1.      You fill out a client questionnaire. This helps them find out if you have any allergies, health conditions, or are taking any medicine which would not make you a candidate to receive the hair removal procedure. If they are taking your health into account with a questionnaire, they are more likely to be following sanitary measures too.

2.      Paper is placed down for body hair removal. It's much more hygienic than just having someone lay down on sheets.

3.      The technician wears gloves. Any type of hair removal can draw blood, even if it's a tiny amount. And skin is much more vulnerable to infection right after waxing or sugaring. Gloves help protect both the client and the technician.

4.      They don't double-dip. Once a stick (applicator) has been placed into product and touched your skin, it should be thrown away. The stick should never put back into a pot of wax or sugaring paste because it could contaminate the product, and then infect clients.

5.      Panties are given to you for a regular bikini wax. They're disposable and much more hygienic than wearing your regular cloth (or, excuse me) silk panties.

Signs of a Bad Waxing Salon:

1.      Things are a mess when touring the facility. Need I say more?

2.      Shelves and containers are dusty. If they aren't doing the basic cleaning, are they really going to be following sanitation measures?

3.      Implements are put back into a drawer or cabinet after use. There are items that can be sanitized after use, like metal tweezers, by being washed and soaked in a strong solution. If they use tweezers and put them away where they got it, then they aren't sanitizing it.

4.      Wax pots (heating units) have wax all over them. Waxing can be messy, but a special product cleans wax off pots, so there is no excuse.

5.      They have a hard time explaining their sanitation measures when asked. If they can't describe it, they're not doing it.
